Law enforcement officials said a St. Charles man has died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident this past weekend in St. Peters.
The 90-year-old died early Tuesday, according to a news report. He was the second person to die as a result of the Willott Road crash.
A 91-year-old St. Peters resident was earlier pronounced dead at a nearby hospital following the accident Saturday afternoon. She had been a passenger in the car driven by the elderly man.
According to a St. Peters police report, the pair was in a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic on Willot Road at Crescent Hills Drive when a 2009 Honda Civic crossed over the center line and slammed into the Sonic head on.
Police said a 42-year-old woman was driving the Civic. She was also injured in the crash, however her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Law enforcement officials did not give a reason for the Civic crossing the center line of the road, but they did say accident reconstruction experts are conducting an investigation into the causes of the crash.
Criminal charges have not been filed, though they might be sought after results of the investigation are in.
In an unrelated matter, law enforcement officials said a St. Louis woman, 87, died after she was injured in a recent car accident.
The violent crash was caused, police said, by an 18-year-old man fleeing police officers.
Officers had stopped the man in South St. Louis, but when they asked him to get out of his car, he put the vehicle in reverse -- nearly hitting an officer -- and then sped off.
Unfortunately, the suspect slammed into a vehicle carrying three people, including the elderly woman. The other two were hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Anyone injured in a crash caused by a reckless or negligent driver has the right to a remedy from the driver, including compensation for medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
