Woman injured in latest of series of pedestrian accidents

One woman is dead and another moderately injured after an accident in Bridgeton on July 5. Reports indicate this most recent of the year's pedestrian accidents here in Missouri was likely due to a medical condition on the part of the driver. An investigation is ongoing.

According to police, a 79-year-old woman was driving her vehicle through Bridgeton when she allegedly lost control of her car. She drove directly into a bus stop, where she struck a 21-year-old woman waiting for a bus. Both women were rushed to hospital by arriving medical personnel.

The 79-year-old woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital, while the 21-year-old's injuries were described as moderate. There is no word as to her condition as of this writing. Police have indicated the driver may have suffered from one or more medical issues that may have been the cause of her losing control of the vehicle.

Pedestrian accidents of this type are always tragic, especially considering the driver responsible perished in the incident. However, there may be precedent to claim that if her medical issues were prevalent enough to cause her to lose control of her vehicle, perhaps she should not have been driving in the first place. With this in mind, the injured woman may be able to seek a personal injury law suit against the estate of the deceased driver in order to be compensated for time lost from work and any additional challenges that arise from her injuries. A suit of this type would be handled through a Missouri civil court with the executor of the deceased's estate acting as the defendant.
