The recent death of a Missouri man in a fatal accident underscores the importance of keeping a safe following distance when driving. A moment’s distraction can cause an inattentive driver to smash into the back of another vehicle. Rear-end car accidents often lead to severe injuries that may impair an individual’s ability to return to work or even result in death.
Driving south on Missouri 13 at about 8 a.m. on a recent Thursday morning, a motorist was apparently rear-ended by a pickup truck. The impact sent his car off the roadway, where it crashed. The driver was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. The 22-year-old pickup driver suffered no injuries, and his blood alcohol level was checked as prescribed by state law.
Police found a little dog trapped in the smashed car, and the animal was taken to a veterinary clinic to have facial and head injuries treated. The dog is expected to recover fully. Following the accident, the family of the deceased man may be facing financial difficulties after having to settle high medical and end-of-life expenses.
The family has the right to pursue recovery of financial losses incurred after the death of their loved one. This is done by filing a wrongful death claim in a Missouri civil court against the driver and any other party who may have an ownership interest in the vehicle. Successful litigation may result in a monetary judgment to compensate families for the financial damages that are typically associated with fatal car accidents.
