Missouri driver charged after personal injury to 4 passengers

When Missouri drivers take to the road, they are expected to drive in a responsible manner. They also have to obey traffic signs along the road. If a driver is negligent or reckless and causes a car accident that result in passengers suffering personal injury or worse, the driver may be held financially responsible for the financial damages of his or her passengers and others.

A 30-year-old woman is now facing several charges after allegedly causing an accident on Highway 19. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the driver was eastbound on the highway when she disregarded a stop sign and struck an embankment. The four passengers that were in the car at the time of the accident all suffered severe injuries and were taken to hospitals in the area. Neither the driver nor the passengers were restrained by seat belts.

The driver was also seriously injured and hospitalized. Authorities reported that she was subsequently charged with a second-degree assault charge for each of the four injured passengers. Other charges include failure to obey a stop sign, failure to wear a seat belt and driving with no insurance while on suspension. No additional information about the condition of the injured victims was available at the time of the media report.

Regardless of the outcome of any criminal charges this driver will have to face, the passengers who were injured in this car accident are entitled to pursue compensation for medical expenses and other financial losses they incurred or may incur in the future. They may each file a personal injury claim in a Missouri civil court. Monetary compensation may follow successful presentation of the claims, including proof of the damages claimed.
