Pedestrian accidents in St Louis reach alarming numbers

In order to protect pedestrians and others using our roadways, motorists must comply with applicable Missouri laws. Pedestrian accident numbers in St. Louis have reached levels that is cause for concern in residents. In 2014, seven pedestrian accidents were recorded. Six such accidents -- some of them fatal -- have occurred in the first quarter of this year.

A father and his son were struck by a hit-and-run driver on a recent Tuesday evening. They were reportedly crossing a road at approximately 10 p.m.after watching a Blues game. Reportedly, a pickup truck knocked them down. Both were transported to an area hospital, and their conditions were reported to be stable.

Only two months before this incident, another pedestrian accident also occurred near the Scottrade Center. Similar to the latest accident, a woman and her boyfriend had just been watching a Blues game and were crossing the street. A vehicle smashed into them, killing the woman and severely injuring the man. Both of these accidents are reportedly under investigation.

The financial repercussions for victims of pedestrian accidents -- or surviving family members of those who lost their lives -- may be crippling. Compensation may be pursued by filing personal injury and/or wrongful death claims in a Missouri civil court. Fortunately, the authorities are often able to locate and apprehend drivers involved in hit-and-run incidents. Filing a civil claim will require evidence of negligence, along with documented details of medical expenses and other sustained losses. When claims are presented successfully, monetary judgments may provide compensation for medical and/or end-of-life expenses, along with other losses as allowed by appropriate state laws.
