5 Women injured in 1 of many Missouri cross-over car accidents

Five women suffered injuries in a recent auto accident on Highway MM. This was just one of many cross-over car accidents that have taken place on Missouri roads. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the collision occurred on a recent Thursday afternoon when two vehicles -- travelling east and west respectively -- both crossed over the center line, causing a head-on collision.

The reason for both vehicles veering out of their traffic lanes is still unknown, but the reason may be determined by the accident investigators. Reportedly, there were two passengers in the westbound car, which was driven by an 18-year-old woman. The eastbound car was occupied by a 60-year-old driver and one passenger. Both vehicles were reportedly damaged beyond repair.

According to firefighters who soon arrived at the scene, the occupants of both cars were trapped and had to be extricated. They said rescuing the three individuals from the westbound vehicle went smoothly, but because the eastbound vehicle came to rest against a rock cliff, rescuing the occupants proved more difficult. To free the two women in that car, the door had to be cut off. The five injured women were rushed to the hospital, where one was reported to be in a critical condition.

Injured victims of car accidents in Missouri may pursue recovery of financial damages that were caused by the negligence of others. However, in an accident such as this one, when it is not clear which driver was at fault, any civil claims may have to wait for the completion of the crash investigation. Once it is determined who was at fault, the injured victims may file personal injury claims against that party in a civil court.
