Pedestrian accidents: Alleged drunk ATV driver kills pedestrian

Too many Missouri residents lose their lives in crashes that are caused by drunk drivers. Some of these tragedies are pedestrian accidents. A 22-year-old woman from Polo died recently after she was struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred in the northwestern area of Ray County in the late night of a recent Saturday. It involved an all-terrain vehicle.

According to an accident report, the woman was struck by an ATV that was northbound on Route BB. Reportedly, this happened not far from Knoxville. The accident victim was airlifted and taken to a medical center for treatment of critical injuries. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries within four hours.

The operator of the ATV -- a 22-year-old man who is also a Polo resident -- reportedly suffered no injuries. He is, however, facing several criminal charges. Along with a charge of involuntary manslaughter, he was also accused of being impaired and driving carelessly -- causing a fatal accident. Furthermore, officials reported that the ATV he was driving was unregistered, and he had no proof of insurance.

Pedestrian accidents often result in fatalities, and the surviving family members of deceased victims often face financial challenges. Not only will there be the expenses related to end-of-life arrangements to cope with but possibly also the sudden loss of income from the victim. Wrongful death lawsuits may be filed in a Missouri court, and once negligence is established by appropriate evidence, monetary awards to cover financial and emotional damages will be adjudicated.
