Missouri car accidents claim 2 more teenage lives on U.S. 54

Many lives are lost on Missouri roads due to drivers crossing over the center medians and entering the lanes of traffic heading in the opposite direction. MoDOT says that installing guard cables to prevent vehicles crossing costs approximately $125,000 per mile, along with a further maintenance cost of $12,000 per mile every year. Various factors are considered to determine where to install such safety guards. The considerations include the traffic levels in an area, the number of car accidents that occur, the severity of the crashes and more.

What not to say or do after a car accident

Car accidents are something we all hope to avoid. Unfortunately, that isn't always possible. Therefore, learning how to react after an accident is crucial. This is especially true if you aren't at fault in a wreck. The following is a guideline that will tell you what you "shouldn't" say or do after an accident:

Car accidents: 1 dead, 1 injured on I-70 in Independence

According to reports by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the past year has brought a steep increase in traffic fatalities. In 2015, 35,000 people lost their lives on roads nationwide -- 7 percent more than the previous year. In Missouri, comparative figures from 2013 and 2015 indicate that almost 300 more deaths resulted from car accidents last year.

Pedestrian accidents: Alleged driver impairment blamed for death

Pedestrians who are walking along Missouri roads sometimes put their lives on the line. While many pedestrian accidents occur at night when drivers fail to see people dressed in dark clothing, some lives are lost when negligent drivers strike pedestrians in bright daylight. Such negligence often includes intoxication or distraction. Columbia police recently reported that such an accident claimed the life of a 36-year-old pedestrian.

Death toll in Missouri car accidents highest on July 4th

Every year, Missouri motorists are urged to take proper care while driving over the Fourth of July weekend. However, every year a high number of car accidents claims the lives of many and also sends multiple injured victims to hospitals. According to an analysis done on highway safety that was recently released, more road accident fatalities occur on July 4th than any other day of the year.
