Car accidents: Driver arrested after fleeing crash with injury

Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury, death or property damage is against the law in Missouri. Nevertheless, there are frequent reports of people driving -- and even running -- off after causing car accidents. An accident in which a driver was recently arrested after fleeing the scene on foot was recently reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

An incident report indicates that the collision occurred in the late afternoon of a recent Tuesday. Reportedly, a 52-year-old woman from Fenton was southbound on Old Highway 21 in the vicinity of Arnold when a northbound car veered across the center and smashed into the SUV she was driving. The 23-year-old Arnold driver who caused the collision allegedly exited his vehicle and fled on foot.

A witness reportedly gave chase and managed to apprehend and detain the fleeing driver until authorities arrived. Both drivers suffered moderate injuries for which they were transported to a medical facility. The driver who ran from the accident scene was arrested for leaving an accident scene and also for a probation violation in another county.

Suffering serious injuries in car accidents that were caused by the negligence of other parties entitles victims to pursue claims for financial relief. In some cases, seemingly insignificant injuries can turn into long-term medical problems that can be costly. Victims may file personal injury claims in a Missouri civil court, and upon establishing financial liability by appropriate evidence of negligence, the court may enter a monetary judgment to cover documented damage claims.
