Missouri car accidents: Sheriff's deputy killed in crash

Negligent driving is a common cause of collisions in Missouri. When drivers fail to pay attention to their surroundings, car accidents resulting in property damage and injuries can easily occur. Unfortunately, some of these collisions lead to fatalities. A sheriff's deputy was recently killed in a crash with a school bus.

The deputy was heading southbound on a local highway when the bus breached his pathway. The bus driver was attempting to make a left turn when the crash occurred. Reports indicate that the bus driver allegedly failed to yield the right of way to the deputy, which resulted in the deputy's vehicle hitting the bus.

Fortunately, no children were on the bus at the time of the accident. However, Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the deputy was seriously injured and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, his injuries were too severe, and he passed away roughly two hours later. The driver of the bus was unharmed in the incident.

Because the deputy was killed in the crash, his family could file a wrongful death lawsuit in civil court against the bus driver. If their lawsuit successfully proves the driver negligent, they may then receive monetary damages to help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other financial expenses related to the crash. Any families who have lost loved ones in car accidents could consult experienced Missouri personal injury attorneys to learn more information about wrongful death claims and receive assistance in filing those claims.
